Gerna Vivian, daughter of Charles Alvin BOLES and Jennie Ann FOLAND, was born Aug. 3, 1898 near Grand River, Iowa, and died Nov. 21, 1975 at her home in Grand River.

At the age of 16 she joined the Tennessee Christian Church northeast of Grand River. She attended the Foland Grade School [i.e. Foland country school] and worked for families in that community. Gerna regularly attended the Methodist Church and was an active member of the United Methodist Women.

On June 21, 1916, she was united in marriage to Sherman William BAKER and to this union three children were born. They lived their life around Grand River except for three years near Kellerton [Ringgold County, Iowa]. They retired from the farm and moved into Grand River in 1970.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister Gladys OVERHOLTZER; and brother Russel BOLES.

She is survived by husband Sherman; daughter Pauline and husband Giffin ANDREW, Osceola; sons, Eugene and wife Mary; Keith and wife Gertrude, all of Grand River; brothers, Reese, Royal, Noel and Mansel, Grand River; Zell, Van Wert; Verl, Mount Ayr; sisters, Delma BAKER, Culver City, Calif.; Ermell PENNOCK, Osceola; Verda Van LAAR, Grand River; 12 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
