John Wesley Klawiter, age 92, of Rice Lake, Wis., passed away Tuesday (June 22, 2010) at his home.

John was born in Eau Claire, Wis., on April 6, 1918, son of William and Molly (Purcell) Klawiter. He married Marian Bramer on May 8, 1946, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Eau Claire. She preceded him in death on April 8, 1990.

John served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was a postmaster with the U.S. Postal Service. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 305, Eau Claire, and a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE). He enjoyed frequenting the Turtle Lake Casino and over the years spent most of his time at his lake home in New Auburn, Wis., where he enjoyed fishing, swimming and bird-watching.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Marian; and brother, Lawrence.

He is survived by his sons, Jeff (Ann) Klawiter of Eau Claire, Bob (Phyllis) Klawiter of Eau Claire, Gary (Barb) Klawiter of Toddville, Iowa, and Randy (Carla) Klawiter of Cadott, Wis.; daughter, KayAnn (Gary Higgins) Klawiter of River Falls, Wis.; 11 grandchildren, Tamara, Marc, Greg, Jennifer, Missy, Lisa, Bill, Kevin, Travis, Bret and Samantha; 18 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

A memorial service was Saturday, June 26, 2010, at Cremation Society of Wisconsin, 535 S. Hillcrest Parkway, Altoona, Wis., with Pastor John Hosmann officiating. Military honors were accorded at the funeral chapel by VFW Post 305 of Eau Claire.

Burial was at Forest Hill Cemetery, Eau Claire, Wisconsin.
