Alan Brent "Mailman" Bowman, 52, of Hagerstown, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006, in Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born Dec. 29, 1953, in Martinsburg, he was the son of Ethel Faircloth Bowman Bringmann of Clear Spring and the late Alan Rich Bowman.

He was a 1971 graduate of Clear Spring High School.

He had been employed by the U.S. Postal Service in Falling Waters, W.Va.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

He was a member of American Legion Post 202 of Williamsport and AMVETS Post 0038 of Falling Waters.

He is survived by one son, Eric Brent Bowman of Clear Spring; eight sisters, Susan DeWitt of Falling Waters, Beverly Bowman of Hollywood, Fla., Sharon Longerbeam of Hagerstown, Patricia Bansky of Jamestown, N.C., Cindy Moore and Kelly Cooper, both of Clear Spring, Kim Warhurst of Trinity, N.C., and Debbie Shively of Mount Holly Springs, Pa.; one brother, John Bowman of Clear Spring; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; and two great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Steven Bowman and Kevin Bowman; and his stepfather, Phillip Bringmann.

Graveside services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Broadfording Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Gene Renner will officiate. Military honors will be conducted by the Joseph C. Herbert American Legion Post 222 of Clear Spring.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Donald Edwin Thompson Funeral Home, Clear Spring.
