Ex-mayor Hiram Straight, died today at the home of his sister, Mrs. Julia A. Frost, in Canemah, aged 52 years. Death was due to Bright's Disease and heart trouble. Deceased was born in Clackamas County, July 27, 1848, his father, Hiram Straight, Sr., who died about four years ago, being a pioneer of 1843. The ceased was a prominent merchant of Oregon City at two different periods, retiring from business the last time a little over a year ago.

In 1876 he represented Clackamas County in the State Legislature and served two terms as Mayor of Oregon City, in 1894 and 1896. Mr. Straight had always been prominent in local politics. He was a charter member and the first vice-president of McLaughlin's Cabin. Native Sons of Oregon, and declined the position of president of the cabin last November. The deceased was married in 1869. A widow and six children survive him. They are William, Hiram E., James and John, of Oregon City; Mrs. Maggie Paustlan (?), Montana; Jacob G., Manila.
