Butte des Morts, WI - Ronald J. Barnes, age 73, of Butte des Morts died of cancer Thursday, December 12, 2002 at his home where he wished to be. He was born September 21, 1929 in Oshkosh to the late Harry and Ella (Stryzewski) Barnes. Ron was a 1948 graduate of Berlin High School. He married Doris Elendt on January 29, 1951. Ron Barnes served his country from 1951 to 1953 with the U.S. Army 7 Division during the Korean Conflict. He first worked for the Bonded Collection Agency, then with Courtney & Plummer and 4X until retiring in 1991. He then worked part-time for Sterling Gardens. Ron was a member of the Winneconne Masonic Lodge 186, the Scottish Right in Green Bay, and the Tripoli Temple in Milwaukee. He served as president of the Winnebagoland Shrine Club in 1999 and has been the treasurer from 2000 until the present time. Ron earned his pilot’s license in 1958 and was a former president of the Twin City Flying Club. He was a sponsor member of Ducks Unlimited for
25 years. Ron also was a former member of Ridgeway Country Club in Neenah and the Oshkosh Gun Club. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and also enjoyed shooting trap, golfing, and the Indy 500. Ron was also a long time Packer fan. Ron is survived by his wife of 51 years, Doris Barnes, of Butte des Morts three daughters and their spouses, Diane and Larry Maki of Winneconne, Karla Barnes and friend Mary Rose, of Oshkosh, Teri and Ray Lee, of Winneconne, one son, Jimmy Barnes, of Winneconne; eight grandchildren, Ty, Tori, and Tara Maki, Alysha and Brittany Lee, Jessica, Kyle, and Cody Barnes, one step-brother, Tom and Anita Werthman, of Marshfield. Masonic services will be held on Sunday, December 15, 2002 at 3:30 p.m. at Mueller Funeral Home, Winneconne. Inurnment will be in Lake View Memorial Park. Visitation for family and friends will be on Sunday at the funeral home from noon until the hour of services.
