October 15, 1913 - August 7, 2003 Henry "Hank" Colarich , age 89, died August 7, 2003 in his home surrounded by his family, following a brief and courageous battle with lung cancer. Hank was born in Pittsburgh, PA to Frank and Mary Colarich as the youngest of six children. He graduated form Allegheny High School and moved west. His interesting career included working in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) during the Great Depression building trails and campgrounds in National Forests and Parks, to working on Grand Coulee Dam. During World War II, Hank was employed as a submarine welder at Mare Island, CA. After the war, he worked as a locomotive fireman for the Southern Pacific Railroad in Los Angeles, and as a welder on Boulder (Hoover) Dam in Nevada, where he met his wife-to-be Marcella Bahler. They married in 1954 and moved to Berkeley, CA. Hank joined Steamfitters Local #342, where he later served two terms on the Executive Board as Recording Secretary. He recently received a plaque commemorating his 50 years of union membership. Hank was a passionate union member and believed in the importance of the labor movement to working Americans. Hank and Marcella moved to Concord in 1955 where they raised four children. He enjoyed taking his family camping and fishing all over the state. Hank was active in Concord Elks Lodge on the Kitchen Committee; Knights of Columbus Council 6038; Meals on Wheels; Laubach Literacy Program: St. Bonaventure Church as usher; St. Agnes Church in the SHARE program; and Concord Seniors Center. He also was active in the state and local Democratic Party, where he served on the State Democratic Central Committee and as president of the Clayton Valley Democratic Club. Following his retirement as a steamfitter, he fulfilled a life-long dream by owning and operating Hank's Delicatessen, where he catered daily luncheons sponsored by Adobe Bank. After retirement from the deli, he and Marcella enjoyed travelling and exploring many exotic destinations including Siberia, China, Yugoslavia, Egypt, and Australia.

Hank was preceded in death by beloved oldest daughter Pauline "Pam" Colarich (in 1978), his brothers Charles and Edward, and sisters Marie, Helen, and Olga. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 49 years, Marcella Bahler Colarich ; daughter Carolyn Colarich Critz and husband Samuel Critz of Galveston, TX; daughter, Christine Colarich Kiernan of Martinez, CA; son, Steven Colarich , wife Debbie Colarich , and grandsons Philip and Nicholas Colarich of Concord, CA.
