She married Clea Carpenter Aug. 2, 1942, in Hot Springs.
The couple later moved to Klamath Falls, where they operated the Division Street Grocery until their retirement in 1973.
A member of the Klamath Falls Missionary Baptist Church. Mrs. Carpenter enjoyed crocheting, needlework, fishing and gardening.
Surviving are her husband, Clea; son and daughter-in-law, Bryan and Gail, Klamath Falls; daughters and sons-in-law Sandy and Finley Schlumbohm, Klamath Falls, and Patty and Jimmie Scantlin, Peter's Creek, Alaska; sister, Mildred Pate, Hot Springs; brother, Sam Spencer, Brownsville, Texas; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
