Richard Penrod Glazier, of Provo, passed away on February 16, 2006, after a short battle with leukemia. He died at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born July 16, 1926, in Heber City, Utah, to Richard Sterling and Myrle Penrod Glazier. He grew up in Keetly, Utah, and attended schools in Heber, graduating from Wasatch High School in 1944. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army. After his discharge, he returned to Utah to continue his education at BYU.

In 1947, he was called to serve in the Hawaiian Mission. He returned in 1949, and married his fiancèe, Betty Lou Bone, that same year in the Salt Lake Temple. They were blessed with a beautiful daughter, Julie. Betty passed away in 1952. He married the second love of his life, Rowena June Sherwood, on May 31, 1957, in the Mesa Arizona Temple. This marriage was blessed with five more daughters and a son.

Penrod subsequently earned a Master's Degree in Education from BYU. He worked for Alpine School District his entire career, first as a teacher; and, then for over 30 years as an elementary school principal. He influenced many teachers and thousands of children over the years.

Penrod was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His testimony of the gospel was an anchor in his life. He served faithfully wherever he was called. He blessed the lives of many while serving as a Bishop and as a Stake President in the Edgemont Stake. He served with his companion, Rowena, in the New York Rochester Mission from

1994-1995. He was a devoted home teacher and friend.

Penrod's family was of prime importance in his life. His great example is a legacy to his posterity. In spite of his busy work schedule and church service, he always made time for his family. Countless, happy memories were made in the small fruit orchard and large garden near his home. There were also many camping, fishing, hunting, and Lake Powell trips. He enjoyed hard work, and "getting the job done". Serving others was a way of life for him.

He loved music and many hours were enjoyed singing with the family, while Penrod accompanied on the ukulele or accordion. He will be greatly missed by his sweetheart, Rowena, and his children and grandchildren who have peace in their knowledge of the gospel and the exemplary life he lived.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Rowena; and his seven children: Julie Ward (Lane), of Trujillo, Peru; Chris Bond (Kevin), of Sandy; Richard Glazier (Shuri), of Provo; Ruth Ann Daines (Rob), of Stanford, CA; Laurie Oldroyd (Bill), of Orem; Mary Koster (David), of Summit, NJ; Penni Glazier, of Orem; 25 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and his sister, Joan (LaVal) Pitts, of Provo.

Viewings will be held on Sunday, February 19, 2006, from 6-8 p.m.; and, Tuesday, February 21, from 9-10:30 a.m. Both viewings will be held at the Edgemont 4th Ward Chapel, 4000 N. Timpview Drive, Provo, Utah. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 21, at 11 a.m., at the same location, under the direction of Berg Mortuary. Interment will be at East Lawn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Perpetual Education Fund of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
