Sunday, June 27, 2010 — James Douglas Cooper, 62, of 12233 Coyle Road, Stanfield, N.C. died suddenly Thursday, June 17, 2010 in Charlotte, N.C.
A memorial service was held Saturday, June 26 at 12:30 p.m. at Hope of Israel Messianic Jewish Congregation by Sam Nadler, in Charlotte.
Internment will be at Salisbury National Cemetery, Salisbury, N.C. at a later date.
Born Jan. 17, 1948 in Winchester, Va., he was the son of the late Wilbur Granville Cooper and Anna Frances Moules Cooper of Pulaski, Va. He was also preceded in death by two brothers.
He graduated from Franklin County High School, Rocky Mount, Va. in 1968. He was a U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran squad leader who served from Dec. 1968-Jan. 1970 and received a Bronze Star and two Distinguished Service Citations. Mr. Cooper was employed by West Logistics, Charlotte.
Survivors are his wife, Emily P. Cooper of the home; three sisters, Elizabeth Jones, Deborah Cooper and Patricia Cooper, all of Midlothan, Va.; two step-daughters, Dierdre Mladsi of Cary, N.C., Bridget Maguire of Stanfield, N.C.; one step-son, Ian R. Maguire of Charlotte, N.C.; eight grandchildren, Franklin Willis Walton III of Scofield Base, Hawaii, Elizabeth Walton of Charlotte, N.C., Alex Neighbors, Mackenzie Neighbors, Rowan Mladsi, Chase Mladsi, all of Cary, N.C., Connor Maguire and Matthew Maguire, both of Charlotte, N.C.
