STANTON – Services for Herbert Okley "Hub" Phillips, 78, were 10 a.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church, Stanton, Texas. Rev. Ed Carson officiated.
Burial followed in the Trinity Memorial Park, Big Spring, Texas.

Mr. Phillips died Sunday, October 24, 1982 at Martin County Hospital after a brief illness.
He was born October 18, 1904, in Glasscock County, Texas. His parents were John Jay, SR. and Lora Ethel Ballard Phillips.
He was married to Gladys Leona Turner on March 4, 1938, in Glasscock County.
He moved to Stanton, about 1942, from Lomax, Texas. He was a cotton farmer and rancher in Glasscock, Martin and Howard Counties
He served as a Martin County Commissioner for several terms.
He raised large gardens and shared with many others.
He was known for his humor and kindness.
"Papaw", as he was known by his grandkids, was loved by all.
He was an active member of First Baptist Church, Stanton, Texas where he served as a deacon, usher and a leader.
Survivors other than his wife include one son, Raymond Phillips of Big Spring; three daughters, Leona Louder of Stanton, Linda Roberts of Franklin, Ind., and Lila Mackey of Garland, Texas; four sisters, Myrtle Tyree, Ethel Cunningham, and Ruby Rankin, all of Odessa, and Gladys Yancey of Texas City; two brothers, Victor E. Phillips of Big Spring and Floyd F. Phillips of Benton, La.; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
