Mrs Lucy A. Gunn, wife of Carver Gunn died at the residence of her son R.B. Gunn a few miles west of Bolivar on 21 Jun, 1884. Mrs.Gunn's maiden name was Owen. She was a native of Connecticut, having been born near Hartford in the year 1812. When she was about three years old, her parents emigrated to "the far west" as going to Ohio, settling near the Scioto River. Subsequently, the family moved to Illinois, where in 1838, the deceased married Carver Gunn. The next year they moved to Southwest Missouri and settled in Lawrence County. They lived there some twelve years. and then moved to Polk.

Mrs. Gunn had been in poor health for some years and her death was not unexpected. She is survived by her husband, now lacking only a few days of being eighty-five years of age, and six children, for of whom are well-known residents of Polk County, viz; O.D., H.C. and R.B. Gunn and Mrs Betty Reed. Two daughters__ Mrs. Eliza Pease and Mrs. Adeline Hadlock__ live in Kansas.
