Retired from Grand Trunk Western Railroad as switchman. Was a volunteer fireman in Durand, MI. He broke both legs when the firetruck he was riding on the side of was hit by a car.

His hobby was making bird houses, jewelry boxes, stools, sewing boxes, etc. Most of his family have at least one item he made for them.
