Jeanette joined the Pioneer Women (Women's Labor Zionist Organization) in 1941 to help Displaced Persons (DPs). In WW II she raised $23,000 to smuggle Jewish children out of Nazi-occupied Poland. In 1950 the Pioneer Women presented her with a trip to Israel for bringing in the most members.
Jeanette was president of her local chapter several times. In 1969 she received a "Woman of Valor" award for selling more than $100,000 in Israel bonds in 5 years. In 1998 she was honored for lifelong volunteerism by the Jewish Federation' Senior Adult Jewish Hall of Fame.
Jeanette was a member of Congegration Beth Shalom. She established the Jeanette Serling Scholarship Fund and annually presented it to an outstanding student of the congregation's religious school.
