George was the son of Gerhard Meiners and Catharina Bernards. He immigrated to the United States in 1858 and settled in Louisville, Kentucky. On 01 Oct 1859 he married Maria Friederike Lemke and they had four children: Mary, Elizabeth, Henry and Theodore. Maria died of dropsy in 1884. The following year he married his second wife, Maria Katharina Von Bokern Vonderhaar, whose husband Friederich had died in 1881 of typhoid pneumonia. George was a farmer and dairyman who owned his own dairy. He died of bronchitis.
