Bertha Inez Kinder was born 15 February 1885 at Red River Station near St. Jo, Texas in Montague County. She was the daughter of Margaret Elizabeth (Wyatt) and Thomas J. Kinder. Both the Wyatts and Kinders were early pioneers in Montague County.
Bertha married Edwin Lee Parks around 1903 when she was 18 years old and he was 28. They had four children in St. Jo -- Laurel (1905), Thomas Jefferson known as "T. J." (1907), Wilda (1908), and Angalyn Parks (1911).
Bertha was a devout Christian of the Methodist faith. When she died in 1978 she was buried in Mountain Park Cemetery and shares a double tombstone with her spouse there.
