A Civil War veteran, he enlisted and mustered into federal service at Carlisle March 13, 1865, overstating his age by a year, as a private with the second organization of Co. F, 101st Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company June 25, 1865.
He married Lucy A. Kinter January 15, 1883, and fathered Charles D. (b. 02/??/81). In 1890, he lived in Mount Holly Springs, Cumberland County.
