Mrs. Yancey graduated from Harrisonburg High School and Goucher College in Baltimore, Md. She was a member of the Spotswood Garden Club, the Quota International Club and Fellowship Methodist Church, where for many years, she instructed Sunday school, Bible school and provided altar flowers. She also served as president of Beta Sigma Phi and was a member on the board of directors of Fort Harrison, Inc.
Elizabeth was a likable, friendly person who had a kind word for everyone.
On July 25, 1952, she married Andrew H. Yancey, who survives. Also surviving are three sons, Thomas H. Yancey and wife, Mary Ann, of Falls Church, Richard H. Yancey and wife, Deborah, of Harrisonburg and James M. Yancey and wife, Jean, of Keezletown; and six grandsons, Andrew, Christopher, Thomas, John, Jacob and Benjamin.
A funeral service, with Father Daniel Robayo officiating, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 3, 2010, at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Harrisonburg. Interment will follow at Lacey Spring Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.
