Brother Charles H. McDermott, was a contractor on tunnel work in Denver.

Few people live to be ninety years of age, and rare indeed are those who celebrate birthdays past the four score and ten; yet to Mrs. Margaret Donahoe goes the honor tomorrow of reaching her 94th anniversary. She resides with her daughter, Mrs. Jennie McGovern, Jewett Street.
Mrs. Donahoe was born in County Monaghan, Ireland. When she was four years old, she came to this country with her mother and brothers and sisters, her father and oldest brother being already here. Their passage over the ocean was made in a sailboat, taking six weeks to make the trip.
The family first stopped at St. Louis and then came to Galena. Their next home was at New Diggings, and later Eau Claire. Mrs. Donahoe's father bought some land from the government in Lafayette County, paying $1.25 an acre. That trip from Eau Claire to Kendalltown will always remain in the memory of Mrs. Donahoe for it was made in a covered wagon drawn by an ox team. She even recalls that the two white oxen her father had at that time were called Duke and Dyme.
Naturally, there are many other memories of covered wagon days which she loves to recall. The all-day trips to Galena with a load of butchered pork area far way from the short auto trips to the cold storage locker plants of today.
In 1869 she was married to John Donahoe, and this union lasted until his death in 1908. The last of nine children herself, she now has the company of all but one of her six children. Mrs. Annie Roach, deceased; Ed Donahoe, Platteville; Mrs. O.P. Quinn, Shullsburg; Mrs. Rose Roach, Mrs. Jennie McGovern and John Donahoe, all of Platteville.
Mrs. Donahoe is remarkably well for her age. She gets around the house a part of each day and enjoys the visits of her family and friends.
