Lurena was born Lurency Sawtell. Her parents were Edmund Sawtell and Hannah Gains. In 1814, Lurena married William Dunham, most likely in Scipio, Cayuga County, New York. They moved shortly after to Clarence, Erie County, New York. Lurena actually died in Newport, Kentucky of dropsy in 1855, but she is buried in Newstead.
When Lurena's grave was first discovered in 1970, the stone was broken in half. In 2011, it can no longer be found.
