Julius Pickney Cain is the son of Robert Craven Cain and Winifred C. Bates and was born October 11, 1826 in Hall County,Georgia. HIs twin brother was John Craven Cain. When he was seven, his family moved to Catoosa Co, Georgia and they lived among the Cherokee Indians where he learned the language. He joined the Baptist Church on November 26, 1842 and became an avid student of the Bible. He married Elizabeth Ara Smith in 1844 in Georgia. He served in the Confederate Army and joined the Masonic Order around 1862. Elizabeth and JP had several children: Andrew S. Cain, Eliza Jane Cain, Robert Alexander Cain, John William Cain, Jefferson Bates Cain, Joseph McAfee Cain, Madison Kimsey Cain, Julius Owen Cain, Sidney Albert Cain, Mary Emily Cain, Martha Frances Cain and Aaron Leroy Cain. In 1884, the family moved to Wood County, Texas. After Elizabeth died in 1912, J. P. moved in with his children, spending weeks with each of them. He died on November 13, 1919 in Cartwright, Texas a the age of 93.
