Eleanor was the second eldest daughter of John Jr. and Augusta (Wilkewitz) Wolnowski. A first generation American-born child of Prussian immigrants, Eleanor lived her entire life at 3817 Livernois Avenue in Detroit. She and her family were members of Zion Lutheran Church.

Eleanor suffered from tuberculosis and underwent prolonged periods of hospitalization. In 1930 she was living at the Maybury Sanatorium in Northville. Her suffering came to an end in her 25th year.
