When Harold Cook Atkinson was born on June 12, 1902, in Newnan, Georgia, his father, Theodore Ellis Atkinson, was 50 and his mother, Mary Lou Cook, was 39. He married Lily Emma Sprott on June 19, 1928. They had five children during their marriage. He died on May 11, 1992, in Macon, Georgia, at the age of 89, and was buried there in Riverside Cemetery.
All of the children of Theodore and Mary Lou Atkinson had the middle name "Cook."
