Jack Dean Hansen, 70, died June 17, 2010, in John Day. There will be a family memorial at a later date.

Mr. Hansen was born Aug. 1, 1929, in Long Creek, to Kermit and Ada Hanson.

The youngest of a large Danish-American family, he was raised by his grandparents on their sheep and cattle ranch near Hamilton on the Long Creek flats.

He attended school in Monument and Long Creek and ranched until he served with the U.S. Army in the Korean conflict.
