Ann Elizabeth DeWees was born on March 29, 1848, in Coppock, Iowa to Jonathan F DeWees and Deborah (van Wagenen) DeWees. She was the first among her siblings to be born in Iowa after the family came west from Ohio. Only twelve families lived in Washington County at the time.
Ann married William Riley Adams on November 18, 1870. They raised three fine sons in Kalona (in English River Township): Marsh, Murph and Tom. In 1919, Ann and William moved from their farm in Snake River into town in Kalona.
Gramma Adams died at home in Kalona on May 3, 1931. She was 83.
