Fred E. Walker Died Early This Wednesday
Fred E. Walker, a resident of the Highwood section for the past 62 years, passed away at the Deaconess hospital in Great Falls, early this Wednesday morning, where he had been a patient for the past nine days. He had been in poor health for the past several months.
Fred E. Walker was born at Sand Coulee on Nov. 27, 1892, and at the age of four his parents moved to Highwood and had since resided there. He was engaged in farming and for a time operated a lumber sawmill at Highwood, getting out his own logs and working them into lumber. He was a hard worker and held in highest esteem by all who knew him.
He was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. James E. Walker, who lived for many years on Highwood creek and engaged in the cattle business.
He was united in marriage to Mrs. Ethel Buckmister on Jan. 7, 1921.
Mr. Walker served his country during World War I with the first division overseas and was wounded in action. He was the first lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1087, Fort Benton. He was a member of the Fort Benton Lodge No. 25, A.F.&A.M., and the Scottish Rite of Great Falls. Mr. Walker was a member of the Highwood Community Church. His passing will be mourned by a large circle of friends throughout Chouteau county.
He is survived by his wife; three sons, Sidney and Fred Walker of Highwood, and Ralph Walker, stationed with the Army at Fort Lewis, Wash.; four daughters, Mrs. Lucille Davison of Great Falls, Mrs. Bernadine Davison of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Carol Stromberg of Medicine Lake, and Mrs. Vivian Guy of Seattle; 17 grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Bessie Davison and Mrs. Clara Johnson, of Highwood, and Mrs. Marvette Seibe, of Boise, Idaho; four brothers, L. A. Walker, of Fort Benton, Clifford Walker, of Highwood, Elmer Walker, of Great Falls, and Glenn Walker, of Spenard, Alaska, and a host of friends who will mourn the passing of a fine citizen, neighbor and friend.
Funeral services will be held in Great Falls. The relatives have the sympathy of all.
