Clarence Benton Minyard

Clarence Benton Minyard of Lexington, 92, died Thursday, January 27, 2005 at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson.

Services were Saturday, January 29 at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Lexington with burial in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Lexington. Rev. Skipper Maxwell and Rev. John Hubbard officiated. Southern Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

Mr. Minyard was born November 9, 1912 in Carrollton to the late James Clarence and Florence Cain Minyard. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Lexington. Mr. Minyard served as postmaster for the Lexington Post Office for eight years and served in the U.S. Postal Service for 30 years. Mr. Minyard was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Diggs, his brother, Jim Cain Minyard, a great-grandson, Adam Pierce and a son-in-law J.M. Tidwell.

Survivors include: his wife of 68 years, Susie Byrd Minyard of Lexington; two daughters, Johnann Tidwell of Vicksburg and Clara Sue Pierce of Lexington; six grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were: Clarence Pierce, Mike Pierce, Trey Pierce, Jay Tidwell, Mike Allen, and John Middleton. Honorary pallbearers were: Dr. William Burrows, Dr. Davis Dear, Dr. Timothy Cannon, Dr. John Downer, and Ben Rathell.
