Pembroke, Va - John Covington Vest, Jr. 88 of Pembroke went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 25, 2008 at Pulaski Health care Center. He was born October 20, 1919 at White Gate, Va, the son of the late John Covington and Julia May Thompson Vest. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two brothers, James (Jack) Vest and Luther Powell Vest; two sisters Wilam V. Blackburn and Josie V. Melvin; one half-sister Lucille Buchanan. He was a member of Riverview Methodist Church and was retired from National Gypsum. He is survived by one brother Ross M. Vest and wife Dolly of White Gate; three sisters, Mildred Stafford , Dublin; Sadie V. White, Christiansburg; Mary V. Albert, Pearisburg; one sister-in-law, Janet Hannabas, Roanoke; one step-daughter Susan McDaniel, Richmond; a special grest-nephew Chris Vest; 13 nephews and eight nieces. Funeral services were held Thursday at 2PM at the A. Vest and Sons Funeral Home with burial in the Stinson Cemetery.
