REVOLUTIONARY SOLDIER


Pvt William Entrekin was a Dragoon, served as a Scout and Minuteman under Captain's William Jones, W. Baldwin and Charles Saxon.

He is believed to be the son of John Entrekin, York Co PA and Laurens Dist SC and unknown wife.
William's brother Thomas Entrekin served as a Revolutionary Soldier also.
William was born in the Marsh Creek settlement in York Co PA. Later residing in Laurens District SC. He removed to Burke Co GA where he married Rachael Bryant ca 1786. In 1805 he took part in the Georgia Land Lottery in Columbia Co. In 1825 the GA legislature appropriated the sum of $400 to the use of William Entrekin "a revolutionary soldier." After the death of his first wife [Rachael]in 1826, he returned to Laurens Co SC, there he married Sarah Hunnicut about 1829 [correct data; per Revolutionary records is April 13, 1831 Anderson Dist. SC by Thomas Carpenter Magistrate].

While residing in Laurens County, he enlisted during July 1777 under Capt. William Jones as a minuteman and marched to Georgia. There, he was placed under Captain William Baldwin and Col. Stewart to guard the frontier. In the spring of 1778, he went on the Florida Expedition and was in service fourteen months. In 1779, he served three months under Capt. Charles Saxon and in 1780, he served two months in the same unit. In March 1781, he joined Capt. Alexander Irvin and Col. Clements [?] and was in the siege of Augusta. He enlisted during June 1781 to serve one year under Capt. James Stallings and Col. James Jackson in a Georgia Regiment of Light dragoons and was in a battle near Savannah. He returned to South Carolina at the end of the tour and acted as a scout until the end of the war. At some time, he was a sergeant. [Moved to Ga. and back to S.C.]
