Johnathan Wood
Funeral services were held here Saturday for Johnathan Wood, 73, who had been a resident of Berryville for twenty years. "Johnnie" Wood became afflicted with
arthritis while a resident of Grandview, where he had made his home for fifteen years.

He and Mrs. Wood and her parents moved to South
Springfield Street in Berryville, and practically every day since, Johnathan laboriously had made his way on crutches to the recreation hall near the square where he played dominoes and visited with his friends.

He was a friend to everyone and will be remembered for his genial and pleasant disposition and his efforts to keep going despite his handicap. He was well informed, having kept abreast of the times via television, newspaper and radio.

Johnathan Erwin Wood died January 30 in the Boone County Hospital in Harrison, following a brief illness. He was a son of Dudley and Mary Wood, and was born September 14, 1890 in Tompkinsville, KY.

He was a veteran of WWI, and was a member of the DAV.

Besides his widow, Arlie Karnes-Wood of the home, he is survived by an adopted son, Homer Champlin, of North Highlands, CA; three brothers, Willie D. Wood and Thomas Wood of Ontario, CA, and Robert Wood, Norwalk, CA; three sisters, Mrs. Roxie Baxter and Mrs. Lillie Holt of Ontario, CA; and Mrs. Ethyl Robertson of Long Beach, CA. One son, Jack Erwin Wood, died in infancy.

Rev. Billy Usery of the First Baptist Church officiated at the services in the Nelson Chapel at 9:00 p.m. Saturday.

Interment was in the Berryville Memorial Park, directed by the Nelson Funeral
Home.
