Austin Vanderbilt, aged 79 years, was instantly killed at the local stop in front of the Wayne County Home on Monday at 12:30, by an "extra" running ahead of the regular car, on account of the Labor Day celebration in Newark.

Mr. Vanderbilt's neck was broken, his head was bruised, one of his arms was broken, besides other bruises.

Mr. Vanderbilt had been staying at the Wayne County Home and was planning to come to the Labor Day celebration in Newark. The "extra" was in charge of Motorman Cunningham and conductor Thomsen, who say that Mr. Vanderbilt stepped right in front of the car before they were able to stop it.

Mr. Vanderbilt was born May 4, 1843, in the town of Lyons. He was the son of the late Isaac F. and Rebecca Vanderbilt. He received his education in the district schools of Lyons, and was a farmer.

He had been married twice, his first wife being Mary Pultz, of Lock Berlin, who died fifty-two years ago. His second wife was Maria Jennings, of Alloway. By his second wife he had two sons and one daughter, Charles Vanderbilt of Lyons; Farley Vanderbilt of Clyde, and Mrs. Edna Litz, of Pulaski. He is also survived by four sisters and two brothers, as follows: Mrs. Charles Ackerson, of Newark; Mrs. Isadore LeRue, of Clifton Springs; Mrs. Sarah Gardner, of Newark; Mrs. Walter Shaw of Walworth; James Vanderbilt, of Fairville, and Ronald Vanderbilt, of North Lyons.

The funeral was held on Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the undertaking parlors of Parker & Schulz. Burial was made in Willow Avenue Cemetery.
