Sophia was the daughter of Hieronimus Honold and Maria Anna Philipp. It is believed that she immigrated to the United States about 1865/1866. Around the same time she married Gustav Michel and the family lived in Indiana and Tennessee before settling in Louisville, Kentucky, prior to 1882. Census records indicate that they had seven children, six of whom are known: Mary, Joseph, Annie, Sophia, Margaretha, and John Jacob. Sophia was a midwife for many years and she appears as one on census records and Louisville city directories from the early 1880's through 1910. She died of arteriosclerosis at the age of 86.
