Rev. John Fleming Atkins, 98 formerly of Hinton and Monroe County, W. Va. was a son of the late John Louis and Martha Virginia Taylor Atkins. He was a retired minister of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), having served congregations in New York, Ohio, North Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia for 62 years. He became minister of the First Christian Church of Hinton in 1932. In 1938 he established the Community Christian Church, where he was pastor until his retirement in 1972. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Charleston, W. Va. He was a graduate of Lynchburg College in Lynchburg, Va., and the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, and studied at Columbia University and Union Theological Seminary in New York, N. Y. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rose Givens Atkins on Oct. 3, 1963, and his second wife, Clara Richmond Atkins; and a son, Robert T. Atkins. He is survived by a son, Rev. John O, Atkins of Charleston; a sister, Sally McCoy of Cold Water, Mich.; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Burial in Fairview Christian Church Cemetery, Keenan, W. Va.
