Joe W. Sanders, Loving husband and father
Joe W. Sanders, age 71, passed away at his home in Camp Verde, AZ on Sunday, December 19, 2004. Born in Cade, OK on July 14, 1933, Joe and his family moved to Chandler, AZ where he attended school. He then moved to New Mexico his senior year and graduated from Hope High School in 1953. Earning the rank of Sergeant, Joe unselfishly served his country in the United States Army as a member of the Special Forces Security Agency and was stationed in Sobe Camp, Okinawa and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in October 1957. After his discharge, Joe met LaQuetta (Gipson) Sanders of Chandler, AZ and they married on July 25, 1959. Joe and his family later moved to California in 1964 where he worked for Sea-land Service, the world's largest containerized shipping company at that time. Affectionately known by his co-workers as "Capt'n", Joe served Sea-land Service in both Long Beach, CA, as well as two years in Vietnam, before his retiring in the spring of 1990. Joe was an active member of the Verde Valley Rangers, the Yavapai County Sheriff's Department Search and Rescue and a past member of the Verde Valley Horseman's Association.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, LaQuetta, and daughters Kathy (Lyle) Pratt of Camp Verde, Kelly A. (Kent) Benson of Newhall, CA, and son Micheal S. (Patty) Sanders of Norco, CA. Surviving grandchildren are Shannon L. VanDam, Shaylin A. Sanders, Lindsay Wilder, Courtney Hopkins, Steven Benson, Logan Pratt and one great-grandchild, Chase S. VanDam. Joe is also survived by his sisters Lorene (Denton) Little of Queen Creek, Alice (Johnny) Rogers of Chandler and brother Charles (Donna) Sanders of Chandler. Joe is preceded in death by his son Russell J. Sanders, granddaughter Tarah J. Sanders, parents William J. and Thelma (Cole) Sanders, and nine brothers and sisters.
Services are scheduled for Wednesday, December 22nd, at Bueler's Mortuary, 14 W. Hulet Drive in Chandler. Visitation will be at 9:00 a.m., with a service following at 10:00 a.m.
