Emma G.. Stoddard, 89, of Independence Township, died Friday Jan. 20, in Hackettstown Community Hospital.
She was a teacher, retiring from the Nutley School System in 1968 after 37 years.
She attended Newton State Summer School and Newark State Teachers College, and also formerly taught in two one-room county schools, in Parker, Morris County, and Rockport.
Born Jan. 10, 1906, in Tranquility, she was a daughter of the late Halloway and Gertrude Hendershot. She moved to Independence Township from Nutley 23 years ago.
She was a member of the Mount Bethel Methodist Church, in Mount Bethel, NJ.
She was a member of the National Retired Teachers Association and New Jersey Retired Teachers Association.
Her husband, Edgar W., died in 1974.
Surviving are two nieces, a nephew, and grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in the Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown. Call 9 a.m. Monday to time of services in the funeral home.
Burial will be in Pequest Union Cemetery in Great Meadows.
The family requests memorials in her memory to Camp Merry Heart, R.R. 2, O'Brien Road, Hackettstown, NJ 07840.
