Walter Vesper Baker son of the late Leslie L. Webb Baker and Ellis D.W. Baker was born in Ellington, Missouri, on January 27, 1927. He departed this life in Ellington, on March 18, 2008, having attained the age of 81 years, one month and 20 days.

On February 2, 1957 in Ellington, Walter was united in marriage to Mary Jane Weber to this loving union two children were born.

Walter was a member of the Ellington First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for over 50 years. He was a member Ellington Chamber of Commerce, he was an Eagle Scout, and he was also a special deputy for the Reynolds County Sheriff Department. Walter owned and operated the Baker Machine and auto parts store and Shelter Insurance Agency for 52 years. Walter was on the board of directors for the Black River Electric Co-op for over 40 years. Walter was also an electrician and he wired homes in Ellington, some for the very first time.

Walter was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Winston and Willard Baker.

Walter is survived by his wife, Mary Jane of Ellington, one son, Lester Ray Baker and wife Gayle of Willard, MO, one daughter, Linda Baker of Ellington, one sister, Wanda Ogle of Dallas, TX, and three grandchildren, Brandon, Matthew and Benjamin. Walter will be deeply missed by his family and many friends who will mourn his passing.

Funeral Services were held at the McSpadden Funeral Home Saturday March 22, 2008 at 10:30 A.M.

Burial: Ellington City Cemetery

Ministers: Kenneth McIntosh & Jim Stewart

Pallbearers: Rick Massie, Alan Chitwood, Bruce Gastineau, Paul Johnson, Wes Roberts & Steve Roberts.
