OBIT:

Charles H. Hinman, 96, pioneer resident of Kittitas Valley and early day Kittitas County school superintendent, died Thursday in Eden House Nursing Home, Yakima. Born January 7, 1871 in Missouri, Mr. Hinman came to Ellensburg in 1896. He taught school at Thorp and served one term as school superintendent for the county. Moving to Yakima in 1902, he became active in land development and orchard property investments. He owned an orchard in the Naches Heights area and owned and operated apartment property in Yakima.

Mr. Hinman was a member of the first board of directors of the Yakima YMCA. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and served as a church elder for more than 50 years. His wife, Caroline, whom he married in 1911, died in 1963.

He is survived by two sons, Lee Hinman, who is with the U. S. State Department in Nairobi, Kenya; two daughters, Mrs. Charlene Allman, Terrace Heights, and Mrs. Lorene Kozak, Seattle; 10 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
