Caddo Parish Clerk of Court 1914-1924. At first a bookkeeper in Richland Parish, he moved to Shreveport in 1902 and at once became a deputy clerk in the Caddo Clerk of Court office. When Sydney Kerley died in 1914, he was appointed to fill the unexpired term and then was elected to the position until 1924, when he chose not to run and entered the private business world. From 1924 to 1934 he sold stoves, then in 1934 briefly led the American Finance corporation. he returned to the clerk's office in 1934 as a deputy clerk and continued as an elder statesman in that position, highly revered by his peers and esteemed for his knowledge of court filings, until his death from a heart attack.
