Making her home in Great Bend, Kansas, Dora was a member of the Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star. She was very civic-minded and dedicated to her church. She attended church meetings and choir practice during the week and church services twice on Sundays where she sang in the choir. She had definate ideas how a church should be run; it was all black & white, right or wrong; no grey areas for her.

She helped raise her granddaughter Wilma. While Wilma was in first grade, Dora was concerned about Wilma's progress in class and went to visit with the teacher, who told Dora not to worry, Wilma would pass. Dora snapped and said "Passing isn't my greatest concern. I want to know if she is LEARNING anything!" The teacher did not return to the Great Bend school system the following year.

Dora was strict but fair. She was a very proud, brillant and well-read lady.

Dora married twice:
1) on Oct. 12, 1891 to William McCleland
Stevens
2) In June 1929 to Thomas M. Kennedy
