She helped raise her granddaughter Wilma. While Wilma was in first grade, Dora was concerned about Wilma's progress in class and went to visit with the teacher, who told Dora not to worry, Wilma would pass. Dora snapped and said "Passing isn't my greatest concern. I want to know if she is LEARNING anything!" The teacher did not return to the Great Bend school system the following year.
Dora was strict but fair. She was a very proud, brillant and well-read lady.
Dora married twice:
1) on Oct. 12, 1891 to William McCleland
Stevens
2) In June 1929 to Thomas M. Kennedy
