Albuquerque, N.M. - June Merley, age 75, died Saturday, Sept. 4, 2004, in Albuquerque, N.M., after a lengthy illness. She was born June 12, 1929, in Helena to Eldon and Goldie Cummins. June graduated from Helena High School in 1947.

June began playing piano professionally at age 11. She pursued her career as a professional jazz musician and played the piano in dance bands for many years. She also taught piano lessons for a number of years.

She married Richards H. Merley in February 1947. He preceded her in death.

June is survived by three sons Kim R. (Vicki) Merley Albuquerque; Tod Merley of Seattle, and Reid (Sherry) Merley of Kalispell; four grandchildren; a brother, Jack (Georgia) Cummins of Gardnerville, Nev.; and aunt Shirley Cummins of Helena also survive her.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, at the Hagler-Anderson Funeral Home, with graveside service following at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Those wishing may send memorial contributions in lieu of flowers, to the State Capitol Band, 237 Greenwood, Helena MT 59601.
