After a long illness with Alzeimer's Disease, Bernard Leo "Bing" Miller passed away on his 76th birthday. ing, formerly of 2114 National, was a resident of Evergren Nursing Home in Clancy for the past three years. He was born Oct 18, 1921 in Helena, Mt to Frank and Verna (Keller) Miller and resided in Helena most of his life. He graduated from St Mary's Grade School in 1936 and from Helena High School in 1940. He was one of the students who attended school in the railroad cars when Helena was hit with the earthquake of 1935. As a veteran of WWII, Bing spent 2 1/2 years in Iran serving with the Transportation Battalion from 1941-1945. When he returned home he continued working with the railraod and then went to work for American Smelting in East Helena. While home on leave, he met Madeline Pauline Anders at the family-owned restaurant, the Bugget Cafe. They were married June 5 1946. Shortly after, Bing joined the family in a sawmill business near Drummond. Over the next ten years, he worked in th sawmills at Silver City, Livingston, and Lincoln, becoming the first certified lumber grader in Montana. In 1957 he went to work for the Montana Highway Department and was employed there until his retirement in 1983. Bing was one of the original founders of the Lewis and Clark chapter of the Association for Retarded Children, volunteering much of his time to those less fortunate. He was also a member of the Eagles Lodge # 16. Bing's life was centered around his family, grandchildren and friends. He truly loved people. His countless laughs and special memories touched many and will forever be cherished. He also loved woodworking, hunting and fishing. He had great zeal for the outdoors and was fascinated by wildlife and "big" trees. Bing's endless spirit and distinctive sense of humor will always be remembered and admired. Bing is survived by his wife Madeline; a daughter and son-in-law Darlene and Norman Scott of East Helena, Darrell and Karen Miller of Clancy; five grandchildren; Curt Scott, Crystal Courtney, Cari Harris, Britni Miller and Erica Miller and three great grandchildren. He is also survived by three brothers, Frank, Bob and jack Miller all of Helena; three sisters, Sue Cote and Dolly Lamping of Helena, and Peggy Elwiss of Denver, Co; two aunts, Rose Miller and hazel Miller of Helena and several cousins, neices and nephews. He is preceded in death bu his mother and father, three sisters, one brother, and two daughters, Verna Monette and Diana Gail. The family prefers that memorials be made to the donor's
