Meta I. Snow, 97, of Menomonie died peacefully on Saturday, March 23, 2002, at American Lutheran Home in Menomonie,where she has resided the past one and a half years.

Meta was born November 17, 1904, in Washta, Iowa, to Harry H. and Grace (Weeks) Clapsaddle. She resided in Iowa until age 10 when her family moved to Webster, Wisconsin. Meta graduated from Webster High School and received her teaching certificate from River Falls Teachers College and taught elementary school for two years before marrying Philip Snow June 4, 1927. Meta and Phil moved to Menomonie in 1944,when he accepted a teaching position with the Menomonie School District. They purchased a small farm near Cedar Falls in 1946. When Phil was nearing retirement, they opened an antique shop in their home. After Phil's death in 1968, Meta continued to operate and expand the business. She participated in many annual antique shows throughout the Midwest well into her 80's.

Meta was active in the communities where they resided as well as in her church. Meta was a Past Matron of Eastern Star in West Concord, Minn.; church organist and pianist at Tainter United Methodist Church; a 50-year member of the Prairie Homemakers Club; a 4-H leader for 13years; was active in the Cedar Falls PTA; taught adult education classes in antiques and owned and operated her antique business,"Antique Treasures and Trifles" for over 30 years. She was also a person of many artistic talents and expressed these interests through oil painting, figurine painting, jewelry designing, flower arranging and sewing.

Meta is survived by one son, Carl (Sue) Snow of Menomonie; three daughters, Grace Fostmeier of Destin, Fla., Calora Lokken and Phyllis Rauchnot, both of Menomonie; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Phil; an infant son, Clinton; a sister, Ina Stone; a brother, Jay; a son-in-law,Harold Fostmeier; and grandchildren, Pamela Jean and Robert Keith Fostmeier.

Funeral services will be 2 PM Saturday, April 6, 2002, at the Tainter United Methodist Church, N7584 690th St., rural Colfax, with Rev. Gail Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in the spring at Evergreen Cemetery in Menomonie.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 PM Thursday, March 28, 2002, at Stanton-Goodrich-Rhiel Funeral Home in Menomonie and one hour prior to the services on Saturday April 6, 2002, at the Church.
