Mr. Brooks was born July 21, 1928 in Jasper County, Illinois the son of Dennis and Josephine (Helmling) Brooks. Mr. Brooks had farmed while living in Illinois, and for many years, had been a heavy equipment mechanic at Reid-Holcomb in Indianapolis, retiring in 1986. He was a member of Bartlett Chapel United Methodist Church in Avon, an Army Veteran of the Korean War, and a master gardener.
Mr. Brooks is survived by his wife, Dorothy Joan (Turner) Brooks; children, Jane (John) Yocom, Jonathan Brooks, both of Gulf Shores, Alabama, Jerry (Margaret) Smith Brooks of Avon, Judy (Frank) Kikendall, of Pittsboro; five step-grandchildren; four step, great-grandchildren; two great, great-grandchildren and sisters, Winifred Michl and Ruby Fisher, both of Oblong, and Bernice Roger, of Effingham.
Mr. Brooks was preceded in death by his brother, Earl.
