Mavis Elizabeth Voss
(April 7, 1930 - July 5, 2010)

VOSS, Mavis Elizabeth (Barton) Voss, 80, passed away Monday, July 5, 2010. Mrs. Voss was a native of Jasper, Florida where she resided until relocating to Jacksonville in 1942. She attended Andrew Jackson High School, later receiving her diploma from the old Duval School of Jacksonville. She began her working career at Southern Bell as a switchboard operator and held many positions during her lifetime, the last being with Jax Bargain Plywood. She was a member of the Highlands United Methodist Church where she served as Treasurer of the UMW for many years and was a member of the Wesley-Mulcahy Circle. She took great joy in preparing large meals at the church until having to relinquish that over the past few years due to illness. Cooking, fishing, camping and most of all, crocheting, were her favorite hobbies, although in the past six years she has devoted the majority of her time to researching her family genealogy. She was preceded in death by her father, Henry C. Barton and step-mother, Beulah Barton; her mother, Mary L. Delaney and step-father, William R. Delaney; a brother, Charles H. Barton; grandson, Robert D. Thomas; 2 granddaughters, Spring Marie Thomas and Rhoni Nicole Green. Survivors include her loving husband, Douglas L. Voss; 1 son, Robert C. Thomas; 6 daughters: Linda Matola (George), Sandra Rentfrow (Don), Mary Griffin (Doyle), Paige Savitz (Chris), Delane Johns, and Tammy Pate (Jud); 2 step-daughters, Carol Voss and Betty Voss; and 1 sister, Margaret Johnson (Jack). She was also blessed with 21 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews and extended relatives, all of who she loved unconditionally. Additionally she raised her grandson, James Johnson and great granddaughter, Jessica Wilson. The grandsons will serve as pallbearers: David Wilson, Jr., Donald Rentfrow, Jr., Dustin Gamble, James Johnson, Christopher Green, Matthew Griffin, Ronnie Green and Cody Johns. Special thanks to Dr. Lawrence Solberg, Joyce Siler and staff of the Hematology-Oncology Department at Mayo Clinic for their care and treatment during the past several months. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, July 8, at Highlands United Methodist Church, with Pastor Joe Allinder officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends one (1) hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements by COREY-KERLIN FUNERAL HOME, 1426 Rowe Ave.
