Henry was born in the small German town of Ankum to Johann Heinrich Friedrich Von Bokern and Maria Elisabetha Margaretha Homer. Due to Imperial German laws forbidding a single son to leave Germany, his father was never able to immigrate to the United States as his five half-sisters had. However, most of his children would do so and Henry immigrated to the US in 1894 and settled in Louisville, Kentucky, where his five aunts lived. On 06 Nov 1900 he wed Mary Agatha Loeser and they had six children: Frederick, Aloysius, Adeline, Theodore, Francis and Mary Rose. Over the years Henry was a employed as a teamster, mortarman, conductor on a streetcar (Louisville Railway Company) and a grocer. He died of typhoid fever at Sts. Mary & Elizabeth Hospital at the age of 41.
