He was born in Cairo, Egypt. He received a degree in business law and his CPA from Cairo University. He moved to New York in 1962 and became an American citizen in 1967. Joseph moved to Las Vegas in 1971 and worked as comptroller for the Hughes Corporation at the Landmark and later at the Sands. He left gaming to open his own real estate business.
Joseph leaves behind his wife, Joan; and a stepdaughter, Melissa Stone.
