After farming in Minnesota, Ervin moved to Everly, Iowa in 1948 and purchased a farm. He married Colene Cranston on April 14, 1950. To this union were born two sons and three daughters. Colene passed away in 1968.
Ervin was united in marriage to Virginia Koenck on November 27, 1970. After their retirement from farming, they moved to West Lake Okoboji. Ervin enjoyed fishing and woodworking. He loved playing cards and games with his grandchildren. After eleven years, they built a home in Milford. Ervin had resided at the Milford Nursing Center since 2003 due to his failing health.
Ervin is survived by his wife, Virginia of Milford; children: Leo Behrens (Kathy) of Everly, IA, Dorothy Brinkley (Gary) of Hampton, IA, Donna Hazelton of Pipestone, MN, Mary Luchtel (Glen) of Spirit Lake, IA and Paul Behrens (Kris) of Spencer, IA; step-daughters: Karla Zoffka of Minneapolis, MN and Cindy Koenck of Longmont, CO; nine grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two step-great grandchildren; five brothers and two sisters.
Ervin was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, one brother, one sister and a step son-in-law.
