Ernest Elmer Schmidt, aged 74, died on Monday, December 21, 1981 at the Community Hospital in Torrington, Wyoming.
Ernest was born on June 1, 1907 in Blue Hill, Nebraska. He was educated in the Blue Hill area, and as a young man, he farmed and was a livestock dealer in this area. He was married to Esther Busking in 1933 in Rosemont, Nebraska; to Leona Baker in 1940 in Smith Center, Kansas and to Lucille Sampson in 1960 in Laramie, Wyoming.
Ernest moved with his family to Douglas, Wyoming in 1952, then from there they moved to Lingle in 1955. He worked at different types of construction until about 1971. The past 10 years he has resided at the Schissler Ranch in Ft. Laramie, Wyoming. He was a member of the Lingles Lions Club.
He is survived by 3 sons: Vaughn R. of Gardena, California, William “Bud” of Hanna, Wyoming, and Mitchell of Guernsey, Wyoming; 1 daughter, Shirley Marie Talivaa of Van Nuys, California; 2 brothers, Charles and Floyd, both of Blue Hill, Nebraska; 4 sisters, Lillian tjarks and Lena Lukas, both of Blue Hill, Nebraska, Adeline Rogers of Florida and Leona Rodeman of Ft. Laramie, Wyoming; 12 grandchildren, and 2 close friends, Marie and Adaline Schissler of Ft. Laramie, Wyoming. He was preceded in death by 3 wives, 1 son, Jim, 1 daughter, Fern Parrish, his parents and 2 grandchildren and 2 brothers.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, December 26, 1981 at 1 p.m. at the Ft. Laramie Community Presbyterian Church with Rev. Alex Chamberlain officiating. Interment was in the Wheatland Cemetery, Wheatland, Wyoming.
Serving as honorary pallbearers were Craig Carley, Barney paules, Howard Brooks, Fred Warner, Vern Kole, Dude Blocker, Bob Breeden, Tom Schissler, Everett Starmer and Chet Frederick.
A memorial has been established to the Lingle rescue Unit. The Schrader-Prell Funeral Home was n charge of the funeral arrangements.
