He was born in Lodi Twp, Washtenaw County, MI. His parents were Alexander Patterson Ward Richmond & Elizabeth Deyarmond. She was born in Nova Scotia; he was born in New York, Rhode Island or Scotland. They are both also buried in this cemetery.

Ethan married Alice Ann Parker of Vicksburg on 15 Feb 1872. By 1879 they were living in Pleasant Valley Twp, Cowley County, Kansas where their daughter, Vilena May, was born. Life must have been pretty rough out there, because they were back in Michigan by 1880. They lived in Park (St. Joseph Co), Millbrook (Mecosta Co), & Grand Rapids (Kent Co) before settling back in Vicksburg. Allie died 2 Nov 1915 & Ethan remarried Lucy A. Moffatt Sliter on 1 Sept 1916. He died of a heart attack at age 86 on 17 Nov 1931.

Records of the former Rupert-Durham Funeral Home in Vicksburg confirm that Ethan is buried in the Jenkinson Cemetery.
