NORRIDGEWOCK - Charles B. "Chuck" Atkinson, 73, passed away Sunday, July 11, 2010, at his home in Norridgewock with his family at his side. He was born Aug. 11, 1936, in Wilmar, Calif., the son of C. Burton and Hattie B. (Lacy) Atkinson.
He graduated from Rosemead High School in El Monte, Calif., class of 1954.
He served in the Air Force from 1954 to 1956.
He married the former Emily Doe on Aug. 9, 1960, in Alhambra, Calif.
Chuck worked as a postal clerk for the United States Postal Service in Port Hueneme, Calif., until moving to Maine in 1970. He then went to work for W. T. Grants in Augusta for three years while waiting to go back to work for the U.S. Postal Service in Maine. He retired from the U.S. Post Office in Augusta with a total of 30 years between California and Maine.
Chuck was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church in Skowhegan.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Emily, of Norridgewock; three children, Terrence Atkinson of Hartland, Eric Atkinson of Waterville and Esther Turmelle and her husband, Joshua, of Waterville; two grandchildren, Sage and Aurora; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents and one brother, Richard Atkinson.
Interment will be at the Sunset View Cemetery in Norridgewock. (Morning Sentinel 7/14/2010)
