Gilbert 'Gilly' Maus, 63

Gilbert "Gilly" Maus, a resident of Pierz, died July 12, 2010, at his home.

Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, July 17, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Pierz, with the Rev. Gerald Dalseth officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Gilbert "Gilly" Maus was born March 7, 1947, in Little Falls, to the late Albert and Alma (Heinen) Maus. He attended Father Pierz Memorial School and graduated in 1965. He was united in marriage to Joyce M. Olson Jan. 10, 1976, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Little Falls. The couple farmed in Buh Township, Morrison County until May 2010. He served as president of the Associated Milk Producers. Gilly started the Country Polkateers Band in May 1972, the band had entertained for the last 38 years. He was a gifted concertina player, guitarist and had tremendous vocal skills. In 2008, the Country Polkateers received the Minnesota Ball Room Association Band of the year award. Gilly was a township supervisor for a number of years. He currently owned GM tent rentals. Gilly enjoyed fishing, playing cards, singing in the Lastrup choir, visiting with neighbors and friends and spending time with his children and grandchildren. Gilly always appreciated playing a practical joke on family and friends. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and was Buh Township Supervisor.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife Joyce of Pierz; children Eric Maus of Baxter, James Maus and wife, Jennifer of St. Cloud, Steve Maus and Rachel of Pierz, Jennifer Monson and husband Kurt of Randall and Stacy Halvorson and husband Josh of St. Cloud; grandchildren Nicole Meyer, Michael Meyer, Andrew Meyer, Isaac Halvorson, Benny Halvorson and Braiden Maus; siblings Werner Maus and wife Mary Ann of Richmond, Leander Maus and wife JoAnn of Pierz, and sister Margaret Maus, O.S.B. of St. Joseph.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Alma (Heinen) Maus and sister, Julianna Kahl.

Honorary casketbearers were Donald Saehr, Jack Happke, Dave Larsen, Ray Czech, Darryl Welle and Rick Tschida. Casketbearers were Eric Maus, Jim Maus, Stephen Maus, Josh Halvorson, Brian Meyer, Jesse Hillyer and Aaron Schmidtbauer.
